Can I do this?

Today was the longest run I’ve had to do since I starting training. It was 14 miles. I set my alarm to get up EARLY this AM and I am happy to say that I actually got up when I planned! Having to run 14 miles was helpful…I wanted to get this run in before it go too hot. I drove up to Folsom today and started at the Power House State Park, to Lake Natoma, past the dam and back up to the Power House.

I think this is the first run (training, not for a race) I’ve done before the sun was up and the roads were empty.

Here is my route:

Since I don’t listen to music when I run I had to get in my music while driving up to Folsom. Today it was Shane Dwight’s cd A Hundred White Lies. Oh and yea, he signed it…like I said before he is my rockstar bf, but he just doesn’t know. Haha.

As my runs become longer I am having a hard time with them. My legs are still really tight because I wasn’t able to get a massage last week. I am hoping once I get one (I have 2 set up within this next month) running will be easier for me. Obviously I am running more than I ever have, but I get very discouraged when I have a difficult run. By difficult I mean my legs being tight, I now have pain in my foot, my knees have some discomfort during and after my runs, and I am sore a few days after my runs. None of these things has ever happened before. If the massage doesn’t completely help I’m thinking of getting some kind of sole support for my shoes. My foot is painful today, which has never happened 😦 While I did finish my 14 miles today – all running no walking, well there was a potty break – it wasn’t easy. With less than 3 months until my marathon I am beginning to worry that I may not finish it. As I sit here and write  type this, I am feeling good and hopeful that I can finish a marathon. But when I was running today I wasn’t so sure. The feeling of letting myself down, and not to mention my friends & family who have been supporting me, is a scary and sad feeling. My friends & fam would never make me feel that way, but I will feel that way if I don’t finish.

There is a 20 mile run I am doing in November in Clarksburg. I think that will give me a good idea of how well I will do at the CIM.

Maybe I am just getting nervous!

Weekend of racing!

This weekend was great!! Started with the Mud Blast in Colusa, The Giant Race Half Marathon in San Francisco & dinner out with my sis tonight (she got a cute little place, her first place on her own, downtown…lucky!)

Mud Run, Christen and I

The first race I have ever run that ends in the river…all races should end this way!

Celebrate with some Sierra Nevada Beer…

…and Sierra Nevada chapstick!

Chewy is sporting my shirt from the Mud Blast

My bibs this weekend

Have you ever seen the freeways in San Francisco this empty?? I never have, so I had to take a picture!

Before heading to SF this weekend I stopped in Stockton at Fleet Feet to pick up the Garmin Forerunner 10. I have never had a running watch before so I was really excited to get this! It is a super easy watch to use which is what I really love about it…actually, what I really love is that it was only $129. Oh, it’s also my favorite color.

Half Marathon – San Francisco by haleymg at Garmin Connect – Details.

My superstition is: on race day I wear the shirt from the last run I did. This is my only superstition 🙂

I finished my half in 2:07:54. That is 15 minutes faster than my first half! Yay me! I wanted to finish in 2 hours or less, but I knew from the beginning that wasn’t going to happen. My legs have been super tight (I am getting a message this week…yes!).  It was a difficult run from the start, but hey I still was faster than my first and running in San Francisco was amazing.

This was my dinner tonight, lobster pizza. Soooo amazingly good! My sister and I celebrated tonight.

Cheers to us! 🙂

Random ramblings

I know I’ve said this before…I hate treadmills! I had to go to the gym today because it was too dark to run outside after work. Damn! But when I got home I used my roller and that helped my legs feel better!

I looooove this thing

So it’s only Tuesday and I’m really wanting this week to go by fast cause this weekend is going to be the BEST ever! My friend and I are doing a mud run up in Colusa and then Sunday I am doing a half marathon in San Francisco. Oh, and after the half marathon I’m headed to Oakland to see the A’s win! Oh yea…can’t wait!! Well, actually after the race I’ll stuff my face, drink some beer and then go to the A’s game.

I love Miles from the Runner’s World Magazine. Here’s his great advice this month 😉

Nothing went right today…

Today’s run sucked! I really hate saying that because I feel so amazing after all my runs, and I hate being negative, but I was just not into it at all today. I had to keep telling myself “You can do this!” over and over. Maybe it was the sleeping in until 11am, the vodka I drank last night, or the beer, the chicken wings, pizza, french fries, or corn nuts…or maybe a combination of it all? 😉 Out of 11 miles I was supposed to run today, I didn’t even do 6. To make myself feel better I plan on running tomorrow which is supposed to be a rest day.

Distance 5.89 miles, Duration 54:26, Pace 9:14 min/mi, Speed 6:49 mi/hr

This cute little guy was outside of my apartment when I came home from my run & was chirping at me. I like to think he was telling me what a great job I did today on my terrible run. Hahaha.

So, OBVIOUSLY I don’t drink/eat like that regularly. Last night I went to an A’s game with my family. You’re totally allowed to indulge when your team is kicking ass right??!

Last night was “Weekend At Bernie’s Night”. If you’re not familiar with the A’s they have been doing the Bernie dance lately. And if you don’t know what that is look it up…it is f-ing hilarious!

Bernie representing Oakland!

They had Terry Kiser (Bernie) throw out the first pitch. It was awesome! He did his dance, threw the pitch and then had some of the players carry him off the field the way the did in the movie. It was great!

The entire stadium doing the Bernie!

No bark in the park, but I had to get a picture with Chewy before we left. I love this dog!

Okay, so after my amazingly fun run today (I am rolling my eyes right now) I checked the mail and got this!! My bib for my next half marathon. The Giant Race is in 2 more weeks. Speaking of race countdowns….my marathon is exactly 3 months away! Damn! 6 months of training half way done!
