First time Foodie Pen Pal!

Alright! Here it is…I’ve been so excited about this since I first read about it. I signed up for Foodie Pen Pals through It’s a fun idea, and I’m glad to be apart of it. My Foodie Pen Pal is Erin, here is her blog She has some amazing recipes, and since I’ve just now (past 6ish months) have been learning to cook I love to find new recipes – her grilled shrimp & pineapple are sooo yummy 🙂

Here is what she got me for my first foodie pen pal experience! I LOOOVE chips and these chips were amazing! I’ve had other chips from this brand, and I think this is my favorite. The cliff bars were also very good. The pumpkin one didn’t last long after this photo 🙂 I really like that she got me some other things besides food. The 26.2 sticker is great! I can’t wait to run the CIM this Sunday (even if it’s supposed to be storming) and put the sticker on my car when I get home. Thank you so much Erin! The non-food items will help me with my running, and obviously the food items I loved!

Zahara says thank you for the box. They are her favorite!

Went to the CIM expo today…got my shirt, bib and bag full of goodies 🙂

The shirt is a little plain, but at least it is my favotie color. 2 more days!!

Test, test

Today I tested out my entire outfit I plan on wearing for the CIM. I may wear shorts depending on the weather, but as of now there is a 50% chance of rain. Which is fine by me, as long as it’s not pouring. Today on my run it was 64 degrees and sunny. Beautiful day…why couldn’t the marathon be today??

Here is my outfit! I went to Fleet Feet yesterday and bought a crap load of energy gels. This morning before my run I realized I had nothing to put them in, since I have decided to not bring my Nathan hand-held water bottle when I run the marathon. So I headed back to Fleet Feet today and got the Amphipod AirFlow Lite Waistpack. I’ve never run with one, and DID NOT want one with water bottles. This one is the perfect size. Hold my gels, phone (I decided I’m going to run with my phone cause I want to take pics along the way…I’m a dork, I know) and most important my chapstick. To see more pics of it check out My Faves.

Here is my run today, it was short. I’m not going to push myself until the CIM:

Sunday Run 3 miles by haleymg at Garmin Connect – Details.

My dad got me these stretching books for Christmas. He gave them to me early, I think cause I’ve been telling him about my knee issue and that I need to stretch better. Thanks dad 🙂

This is what I’ve been reading lately though. I saw the movie first, and have been wanting to read the books. I can’t wait to finish this one and read the others to see what happens!

Run To Feed The Hungry

Today was the annual Thanksgiving run here in Sacramento, Run To Feed The Hungry. I had signed up with plans to run the 10k. My knee had other plans…so I ran the 5k. It was a beautiful run through great neighborhoods of East Sacramento. Not to mention the perfect weather!

The 10k started at 8:35am and 5k at 9:00am. Just so I wouldn’t be tempted to run the 10k I got there a little later. Almost too late. I made it to the start about 10 minutes before we started! I heard them announce there were 27,300 people participating (no wonder it took so long to find a parking spot). Which is awesome because all the money goes to the Sacramento Food Bank. This run was so fun I’m going to plan on doing this one every year! Here is the 5k route:

Here is the shirt from this race. I’ll be wearing this when I run the CIM. I am considering cutting the sleeves though because I HATE running in long sleeves. I get too hot!

10 more days until the California International Marathon. AKA the first marathon I will run, AKA what I have been training for since June, AKA all I’ve been talking about…you get the point. I’m excited!!! What I’m not excited about is the 4:00am wake up call that day. Maybe I can push it to 4:30? We’ll see, I do only live like 10 blocks of where I’ll be catching the bus to the start.

Saucony Guide 6 – My CIM Shoes!

Let me just say, I am not some one who knows a lot about shoes and I am not trying to give any kind of advice or pretend to give some kind of professional review here. What I am going to do is tell you what I think & how I feel about the new Saucony Guide 6 shoes. These are the only running shoes I have had since I started running (which has been about a year now). I have tried others, even bought and ran in the Nike Lunar Glide’s…those ended up hurting my feet and I went back to Fleet Feet and got Sauconys again.

The first pair of Saucony Guides I got were a size 7 1/2. I LOVED them! The fit, the support…it was like running on a cloud. When it was time to get a new pair, still the Guide 5’s, it was suggested I try a size 8. So I did. They were still good shoes, but I feel like I didn’t like them as much in this size. It took about 3 weeks to realize that so I never returned them. Maybe I should have, but too late for that now.

My size 8 Guide 5’s are still in pretty good condition, but I wanted to get a new pair to run the CIM. So I went to Fleet Feet Sacramento yesterday and got a new pair. Here are the Saucony Guide 6’s:

Aren’t they pretty??

I didn’t know a new model had come out so I was interested to see how these compared to the 5’s. First of all, my only real complaint with the 5’s was how damn long those shoe laces were! They fixed that…thanks Saucony! Because if I didn’t double knot them sometimes I would step on them and they’d become untied. Another thing (if you can notice in the picture below) is they don’t seem as wide as the 5’s. The new Saucony Guides I got yesterday are a size 8. We tried a 7 1/2 and it was too snug…maybe it’s just me? But when I put both on at the same time I could totally feel a difference.

Zahara was also excited for my new shoes

Another purchase I made yesterday was Superfeet Insoles. They were recommended to me by a few people after I had complained about some foot & shin pain. Today was my first run with them. I really do like the support I get with them and think they will be helpful. I am going to start doing all my runs with them to get used to them before the California International Marathon. I don’t need anything new to f- up my first marathon!

My run today to test out my new shoes & insoles:

Sunday Run by haleymg at Garmin Connect – Details.

Overall, I really like the new model of the Saucony Guide 6 shoes. Like I said, they are the only running shoes I’ve had…when you find something that works stick with it! I will be interested to read other reviews on these shoes, by someone more seasoned than me 😉

ps I did try on a pair of Asics that were comfy as well but they were black, blue & PINK. I said to the lady helping me, “I don’t mean to be silly, but is this the only color these shoes come in?” I think you know the answer to that. Is there anyone else who is particular about how a shoe looks, or a color you won’t buy?

And it became a race

Today was my last short run of the week. 4 miles. It was easy at times, and hard at times. Have you ever had those dreams where you are trying to run away from something and your legs feel heavy, or like you’re running in water? That is what parts of my run felt like today. I was really upset and thinking, “Why am I doing so terrible on my runs?” “Why have they been so difficult lately?” Then I thought, “I love running, This should be fun.” So I stopped focusing on how terrible I thought I was doing and began to be thankful that I am able to run with out the pain I was experiencing just a few weeks ago. I began to look around at the beautiful neighborhoods I was running through, breathing fresh air, and just being happy. I felt much better after that.

Then my run became a race. I had about a 1/2 mile to go and I heard someone behind me catching up. So naturally I sped up 🙂 Then out of the corner of my eye I saw it was a man running pushing a stroller. “Hell no, this guy is not gonna beat me pushing a stroller” was pretty much my thought, minus some expletives (I have a potty mouth). So I went even faster, and so did he. Did he know we were racing? I was a little sad that I was done with my run (race) cause I wanted to keep ahead of him. But then I saw my car and had to stop and cool down. I feel like I won cause I was ahead until I had to stop – which would be considered the end of the race 🙂 Also, I am still trying to take it easy otherwise I would have kept going! Here is my route today:

Marathon Training – Short Run 4 miles by haleymg at Garmin Connect – Details.

Alright, so I signed up for this thing called Foodie Pen Pals. It is through this great blog I found called And I found this blog through another blog I follow This month will be my first month participating and I am super excited!! I just got everything to send to my first Foodie Pen Pal today, I really hope she likes it!

F-you Pedestrian

I’m beginning to wonder if this is what drivers think. Every time I am running (or walking) cars never stop, rarely stop for me. Umm drivers out there….you know those white lines that go across the road for people to walk in? Those are a sign for you to stop your ass when you see someone on the side of the street trying to cross. They ARE NOT for you to drive right on through and give me dirty looks as if I’m doing something wrong. Oh, and when you have a green light, yea, that means go but if you’re turning on a green light I still have the fucking right away. In case you were wondering.

Running in the city can be a hazard. That being said, I still enjoy it. Here is my route from tonight:

Marathon Training – Short Run 5.5 miles by haleymg at Garmin Connect – Details.

Obviously I am running again (YAY!!) and obviously I am taking it slowly (BOO!). I’m such a complainer! I was very happy to be out tonight running, great fall weather. Alright, countdown time: Clarksburg County 20 Miler 4 days away & CIM 25 days away!

What I thought about on my run today Part 2

I had my yummy breakfast cookies & almond milk for breakfast this morning before my run. If you want the recipe you can find it on my Foodskies section. They are really good, and of course I go the recipe from Pinterest aka The Best Website/App Ever!

Here is the route from my run today:

Marathon Training Long Run 6.5 Miles by haleymg at Garmin Connect – Details.

So here are some of the things going through my head as I was running today:

  1. The CIM is in 28 days!!
  2. I feel heavy 😦 I could use the excuse that I haven’t been running as much, but we all know I’ve been going out & drinking way too much since living downtown.
  3. Mmmmmm beer….Murphy’s Stout. Yum.
  4. DO NOT wear heals the night before you plan on running the next morning.
  5. I need to get some new shoes before the CIM. Yay for $15 rewards from Fleet Feet!
  6. Jesus Christ my pace is all over the place.
  7. I really feel out of shape. Time to stop f-ing around and eat the way I’m supposed to.
  8. Ooo The Rind, a cheese bar? What?? I’m gonna be there all the time when that opens!
  9. Mile 3 & no pain. YES!!!
  10. I love the sounds of the leaves as they crunch under my feet  🙂
  11. I don’t love almost slipping on them though.
  12. Love this song! (These Arms of Mine, Otis Redding)
  13. Now I’m gonna have this song stuck in my head for the rest of my run, but that’s okay.
  14. Can you get the fuck out of my way? You all seriously have to walk across the whole sidewalk?
  15. Stop being a bitch Haley.
  16. I want a Subaru!
  17. Why is my hand sticky? I know that happens when I have energy gels, but I haven’t had one. What the fuck?
  18. …these arms of mine, they are burning, burning from wanting you. These arms of mine…
  19. Hell yea, 6 miles and no pain!
  20. I’ve missed  running!
  21. Done!

As long as I feel good (no foot pain) these next couple of days I’m going to start back on my training schedule. Which makes me really happy 🙂 Not doing my usual training has kinda got me stuck in a rut. But not anymore! The realization that my first marathon is less than a month away hit me hard while on my run today. Usually I feel light, fast and like I could run all day. Today it was more like heavy, slow and struggling. Still good to run, but it definitely wasn’t my best.

Zahara loves her mom so much. When I come home she always has to be all in my face. Don’t mind my face in this picture, I just got done running.

Well happy running all! Have a great rest of your weekend.
