Product Review: Ultima Replenisher

Ultima Replenisher is another sponsor of ZOOMA Napa Valley . Being a ZOOMA ambassador I got the opportunity to try their product. They came in a box of mixed flavors: orange, grape, red raspberry and lemon. I don’t usually drink replenishing drinks before or after my runs/races. I usually just do water. But with the change in the weather here in Sacramento lately I figured now would be a great time to try these out! They also sent a brochure comparing their product to similar products on the market:

I like that they’re products have zero sugar, and nothing artificial. They are also advertised as using no GMO’s, vegan friendly, gluten free and have no MSG. This is something a lot of companies are trying to do these days. I also wanted to include this statement from Ultima’s website:

“The principal purpose of Ultima Replenisher is to provide rapid hydration and balanced amounts of electrolytes critical to performance. Ultima is a low carbohydrate drink for a reason. Carbs are great for energy and we recommend getting your carbohydrates from food. The problem with carbs in a drink is sugar, which requires digestion and this takes both time and energy. Ultima’s absorption rate is fast because of its low carbohydrate formula.” – ultimareplenisher.com under FAQ section. I appreciate them not adding a ton of carbs, and agree that those should come from food. Their product replenishes  your electrolytes quickly, then it is up to you to get some real food into your stomach! 🙂

So far I liked what I saw. The first flavor I tried was orange.

It was pretty good, a little on the sweet side and you really have to mix them so they don’t have chunks left on the bottom. I am thinking if I used room temperature water (I used cold water from my fridge) this wouldn’t have been an issue.

The next flavor I tried was raspberry. This was WAY too sweet for my liking. And although their products have no artificial flavoring or colors, I couldn’t get past how artificial this drink looks.

This is how it will look if you don’t stir it .

The next flavor I had was grape. I am not a huge fan of grape flavoring but this wasn’t too bad.

Finally, today I tried the lemon. I saved this for last because honestly I thought it would be disgusting. I was wrong! I really liked this flavor. I also appreciated that it didn’t have a bright yellow coloring, it looked and tasted the most natural of all the flavors I sampled.

Overall I liked this products, and when I get more in the future I will be getting the lemon! While I don’t think I will use them for every run, or every long run for that matter, I will definitely be using them during my long & hot training runs in the summer. I did a 15 mile run today and this was the first thing I drank when I got home. It made me feel refreshed and I didn’t get that dizzy feeling I sometimes get after a long hot run. Thank you Ultima Replenisher and ZOOMArun for these samples!

Here is my route for my training run today:

And finally…it happened again. This is my 3rd time falling while running. If you’re running on the sidewalks of Midtown/East Sacramento it is bound to happen- damn uneven sidewalks. A nice man pulled over when he saw me fall and asked if I was okay. I replied, “It happens all the time. I’m fine”. He gave me a strange look – he must think I am really clumsy! Although a clumsy person wouldn’t be able to pause their Garmin mid-fall…I have skills.

  1. I have used Ultima in the past and was super excited that we were sent some through the Ambassador program with Zooma 🙂 I can’t wait for the Napa Valley race

    • I can’t believe I didn’t know about it sooner. I’m glad I have it now though, it will be great for summer runs.
