About 2 weeks ago I posted a give-a-way for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon . I was offering a FREE registration from Team In Training – which offers training, help with fundraising, hotel stay, dinner, celebration after the race…and running in the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco! There were a few readers interested, but not willing to commit to the fundraising. Which I get. I didn’t really want to raise money myself. However, after some thought, I decided I will register with Team In Training for the NWHM. I want to challenge myself, I want to help those who are living with cancer, I want to do something to make a difference.
Now here I am. My goal: $2,500. I believe that is doable. I have NEVER done any type of fundraising before (well, I did do a spell-a-thon back in elementary school). I will admit I am a little nervous, but this is for a good cause. In case you are not aware of what Team In Training and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are about here is some info:
In 1988, Bruce Cleland assembled a NYC Marathon team to raise money in honor of his daughter, a leukemia survivor.
38 runners raised $322,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) work to discover new treatments for blood cancers.
During the next 25 years, LLS’s Team In Training (TNT) has become the leader in endurance sports training for charity, funding significant therapies like chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants, which have a significant impact on blood cancer patients.
Today, LLS funds only the most promising advances; targeted therapies like Gleevec®, Velcade® and Dacogen® take aim at cancer cells, and destroy them. Immunotherapies use a patient’s own immune system to kill cancer. And the repurposing of existing drugs for arthritis and antifungals to fight specific leukemias are breakthroughs that allow patients to live their best life, today.
TNT and LLS fundraising efforts through marathons, triathlons, cycling and hiking really are making cures happen. Coaches will expand your fitness level with workouts, nutrition and hydration clinics. And you’ll have staff members to help with fundraising support.
I am very excited for this opportunity to raise money for TNT and LLS. I am asking my readers to please go to my donation page and donate now! No donation is too small! But just to give you an idea how easy this could be – if every one of my blog subscribers donated $10 I would have $1,590. More than half of what I need to raise!
I am also toying with the idea of a Run-A-Thon. This will possibly be happening early August so keep an eye out for that – very exciting!!
Thank you all so much for your support. Here is the link to my personal fundraising page:
