Run-A-Thon

5:55 AM at the California State Capitol. Can you see little me??

Today I ran 6 hours. Why? To raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society . A few months ago I was contacted by Team In Training and asked if I wanted to participate. They gave me an entry into the Nike Women’s Half Marathon and in return I had to raise $2,500. Yeah, that is a lot of money. I also signed up a lot later than most people so I haven’t had as much time to raise money. I have just over $500 to date.

I came up with the crazy idea to do a Run-A-Thon to raise money for my fundraising. I don’t think the running was that crazy of an idea, but when you consider that I decided to do this a week to the day after the San Francisco Marathon…some might think I am a little nuts.

Here is the course of my run today. It was mostly around Capitol Park. I had to run to Starbucks once to use the bathroom (there is no other reason to go to Starbucks!) then to a local coffee shop to get a bagel – I needed food!

I wasn’t really in the mood to run this morning when I started. However, I was going at a super easy pace and just enjoying myself. I wasn’t trying to race this; just going running for fun and to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I was feeling great and time was flying by…then came the 3 hour mark (half way done) and I was at 15 miles. My knee really started hurting. It is the knee that I have fallen on about 4 times in the last 2 months or so. I was a little upset that I had to stop running, but I don’t need a knee injury. At this point my boyfriend showed up and  we walked to get some food for me.

Me and Norm Lopez. I always have to stop and love on him 🙂

1 1/2 hours later I decided to try to run again. I probably made it about a quarter of a mile before realizing I was going to be walking the rest of my Run-A-Thon. It was right then that I saw a friend – that I recently made – walking up to me. It was super nice to have someone with me the last hour and a half of my run/walk. Of course I was bummed that I couldn’t run the whole thing, but I am not stupid. I know when to take it easy. Thank you SO MUCH Jodie for coming out and supporting me!!

Half-way there! (Gotta represent November Project Sacramento!!)

So my Run-A-Thon turned into a Run/Walk-A-Thon and I am okay with that. I ran 15 miles, and 10 miles were walked. 25 miles done by noon. Not a bad way to start a Sunday.

When I was done me, my boyfriend, sis & her boyfriend and other friends headed over to LowBrau. I LOVE this place!! Great food and beer! Today I had an extra special reason to eat here. LowBrau was kind and generous enough to donate a portion of their brunch proceeds to my fundraising. I can’t thank them enough for their support. Seriously, how f-ing cool is that?! Huge thanks to you peeps at LowBrau. You’re awesome!

I want to say thank you to everyone who pledged me or donated during my Run-A-Thon! I had a ton of support from friends, family, strangers and local Sacramento businesses – Track 7 Brewery was also kind enough to donate.

If you would like to donate to my fundraising there is still time! Click here: My Fundraising Page

Thanks again for all your  support!!

  1. Good for you! What an amazing accomplishment. And what a great cause .. I lost a niece to leukemia when she was 5, and my father-in-law battled lymphoma. I will be honored to contribute to your fundraising. (And there is no shame in walking — my best race times are when I do run/walk intervals.) Good luck!

    • Thank you Linda! It was a great experience and I was happy to do it. Thank you for your donation. I truly appreciate everyone’s support!
