CIM 2014 Training: Day 43 of 125

Training, training, training…kinda seems like that’s all I do. But that is NOT a bad thing. I am loving how my training is going. I feel really strong, positive and  happy with my progress! I am really seeing this time around (this will by my 3rd CIM) how important it is to train, and train hard. I have also incorporated cross training this time around as well. I did last year too, but nothing like I am now. So again, thank you Kaia FIT sooo much for making me a stronger person. LOVE Kaia!

This morning was a usual Monday. Up at 4 AM, Kaia at  5 AM, then CIM training. Usually Monday’s are my long run days. I’ve had to switch up training days lately so today was speed work. My run wasn’t has strong or as fast as I’d like, but my splits were still pretty good, and even. Today’s workout was 400, 800, 1200, 1600, 1200, 800, 400. It was a fun one! CIM 2014 Training Ladder Speed Work – 6.8 miles by haleymg at Garmin Connect – Details.

I have not raced since Labor Day…which, come to think of it, I did not blog about. Crap – well, it happens when you’re busy. I do have to say it was a GREAT race! It was my first 5k in about a year. And…wait for it…

I came in 3rd place in my age group!! First time I have placed in a race. Yeah it is “just” a 5k but I am still pretty proud. I set a new 5k PR of 22:32. My prize was a pint glass. You can never have too many of those!

Strong sprint to the finish. I felt like I was going to vomit. I’ve been told this is a good thing.

Although it’s a pint glass…my first drink out of it was a sparkling wine. Hey, I had to celebrate.

Alright, back to the present. Like I was saying, I have not raced since Labor Day. My next race is the Urban Cow Half Marathon . I signed up for this race because I have not run it. It is pretty much one of the only races in Sacramento that I haven’t run yet. I am really looking forward to it and STILL looking forward to that 1:45 finish. I know I can do it!

Finally, I have some sad news. This is going to be brief and it won’t be something I talk about again. People have been asking me what happened to November Project Sacramento. Well, long story short, it is no more. Based on the decisions one of the NP_SMF co-leaders and the “mothership” (as we called it in NP) we were not growing at a pace equal to other NP Tribes. I know I can say I gave 100% to our Sacramento Tribe – trying to recruit, coming up with fun workouts and keeping people excited about what we could have done. I feel good about that. A few people have pointed out to me they had no idea there were 3 leaders of November Project Sacramento. Perhaps that is why it failed. Yes, I feel like we failed. I know others will disagree. However, I am okay with that. No one is successful at everything they do. You have to fail, you have to make mistakes. It is how you learn. Super cliché, I know. I am okay with that too 🙂 It was fun while it lasted, I met some great people and hopefully I have inspired others to get their ass out of bed, be active and to be a good person! That is what it comes down to…that is one (of my many) goals in life!

  1. Awesome job with your workouts!! You’re working so hard!! You really rock!! Way to go on your 5k place and time!! So awesome!! I hope you have a fabulous week!! I just connected with you on Garmin Connect!! XOXO!!

  2. Love that you’re doing more cross training! Love your dedication. As your fellow co-leader, we know how we both feel, but I’m glad our friendship came out of it! That’s a huge bonus in my eyes! Super congrats on finishing in the top 3, that pint glass will always be a sweet little reminder if your hard work! Hoping to cheer you on at CIM, just depends on what leg of the relay I run! xoxo, ganeeban

    • Thanks Jamie. I tired hard, and it was fun while we had it. I will be coaching in the near future, so I am still helping people and I like that 🙂
