I love running. And everybody knows it thanks to my blog, social media, and blabbing about it all of the time. There are times when I wish I would have started running years ago; started in middle school and continued from there. However, in the end I am so thankful that I found my love of running when I did. I remember the exact day, and pretty damn close to the time of day! It was December 4th 2011. My friend ran the CIM that day. It was her first marathon so we went to cheer her on, and as I watched my friend and all of the other runners cross the finish line I knew I wanted to start running, and someday run that same race myself. So I began running a few weeks later, and I have run the California International Marathon every year since.
Running is not always easy, or fun. My CIM experience last year was awful. But I was still so happy after, and it wasn’t just becuase I was finished! After every race and every training run I remember, or try to, how lucky I am to do something that I love every day.
Being more of a newbie to running than others I know, it has been quite the journey. There is SO MUCH to learn, at least that’s how it is for me. I always need to know how, why and what. I have done a lot of research of running gear, training plans, running fuel…I’ve gone through it all and there will always be something new to learn. Recently I was able to try the Perfect Bar.
First, these bars are sooo yummy! I also really love what the Perfect Bar company represents. It is a family run business and you can watch their story here. I couldn’t agree more with this statement from their website, “what goes into your body directly impacts how you feel and how you live.” True that.
My first race of 2016 was yesterday. It was a trail race and it was pretty tough, but so much fun! When you love to do something, you do it no matter how hard it may be. Fueling during races has always been a place that I could use some improvement. So I brought 2 Perfect Bars along. One for during the race and one for after. They really were perfect! I like to eat real food when I run. Gels and gummy things don’t always sit well in my stomach. Perfect Bars are real food. I ate about 1/2 of the bar during my race and it wasn’t too heavy in my stomach. These will definitely be coming with me on future runs.
